We Talkin' about Denim!

While denim (or "jeans" as we called it before the streetwear wildfire started to spread) is a staple for any American neighborhood large or small, San Francisco is all over it. Perhaps its remnant from the 1960's hippie culture that redefined this seaside trading port, but denim seems to be important to these people the way clogs and tulips are to the Dutch. Many of the stores we stopped into over the weekend didn't just cary a few styles of denim, but a full on library of the best cotton twills available today. Granted one of these locations was the flagship store for Levi's, which rightfully so, could put together an entire museum on the subject without stocking anyone else's brands. And they did, at least in a small way.

Levis Denim Museum

The ground floor of the Levis store was like a mini museum. There was a timeline of all the different 501's since the 1930's. They even had the original patterns being re-produced in re-milled weaves of their classic denims. So, the "museum" took on a level of engagement with the customer because you could actually buy a pair of 501's from the 50's or pick up a pair from the late 60's. They even had the original tagging. very cool.
